Sysco Shop: Inventory & Ordering Mobile App
Sysco Shop is a mobile application that helps restaurant teams manage inventory, place orders, communicate with Sysco, and track deliveries — all in one place. Before Shop, customers relied on multiple tools across mobile and desktop, creating friction in day-to-day operations.

My Role
I owned the design end to end, leading strategy, UX/UI design, and execution across discovery, prototyping, and launch. I partnered closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and external design teams, and worked directly with customers through interviews, focus groups, and usability testing to validate solutions throughout the process.
The Problem
Restaurant teams had to manage inventory and ordering across multiple applications and devices. Key workflows required switching between mobile and desktop, slowing users down and increasing errors.
Customers needed a faster, more intuitive way to:
- ~Check inventory
- Place and track orders
- Communicate with Sysco
- Manage daily operations from the kitchen floor
In short: The existing experience didn’t reflect how people actually worked in fast-paced restaurant environments.
What We Built
We designed a unified mobile application that brought inventory, ordering, communication, and delivery tracking together into a single experience.
The interface was intentionally minimal and clean, designed for speed and clarity in high-pressure environments. We used Sysco’s core brand colors and Material Design icons to create a familiar, scalable framework that could grow with the product ecosystem.
Key capabilities included:
- AI-powered search and recommendations
- Speech-to-text for faster ordering
- Speech-to-text for faster ordering
- Machine learning to support smarter workflows
To move quickly and ensure consistency, I facilitated ongoing collaboration between Sysco Labs and MadMobile designers. This led to shared patterns and a design system that external teams could use to build additional products — extending the impact well beyond this app.
Results
Sysco Shop launched successfully across North America, improving adoption and customer satisfaction by simplifying how restaurant teams manage daily operations.
Beyond the app itself, the project established:
- A consistent design language across Sysco products
- A reusable design system adopted by multiple teams
- A foundation for future AI-driven experiences
Why This Work Matters
This project showed the power of simplification at scale. By consolidating fragmented workflows into a single mobile experience, we helped customers work faster, with less friction, and in ways that matched their real-world environments.
It also demonstrated how strong design leadership — paired with collaboration and systems thinking — can unlock impact far beyond a single product.
